The Role: We are looking for a Data Scientist, with a heavy focus on Pricing, to work in a multi-disciplined team alongside Developers, Designers and Product Owners.
The role sits inside the BI team in Ryanair Labs. Ryanair Labs is the technology brand of Ryanair, a start-up inside a corporation and a state of-the-art digital & IT innovation hub creating Europe's Leading Travel Experience for customers. The BI team are made up of 95+ people split across the three Ryanair offices: Dublin, Madrid & Wroclaw. Within the BI team there is a range of different professions: Data Analysts, Data Scientists, Data Engineers, Optimization Engineers, Data Modellers, BI Analysts, BI Reporters & BI Developers.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the design, development, and implementation of advanced pricing models and algorithms to optimize pricing strategies
- Utilize sophisticated statistical techniques and machine learning algorithms to analyse historical pricing data, forecast demand, and identify pricing opportunities.
- Conduct in-depth analysis of pricing performance metrics, including revenue impact, price elasticity, and customer segmentation, to assess the effectiveness of pricing strategies and drive continuous improvement.
- Mentor and collaborate with team members, providing guidance on best practices, analytical methodologies, and data visualization techniques.
- Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and contribute to thought leadership and innovation in pricing optimization.
Requirements
General Requirements
- Education: Relevant Undergrad Degree in field of Data Science (or similar), Masters/PhD preferable.
- Work Experience: 5+ years professional experience in Data Science positions.
- Pricing & Commercial Experience. Experience in product pricing/pricing models is a necessity. The candidate must be commercially astute and be able to recognise the value of projects. Experience working with a commercial focus is essential, commercial value added is a key component of job performance.
- Ability to work independently. Crucial to be a self-starter and consistently show initiative & diligence on a daily basis. The team is built up of people who generate ideas and show initiative in the work they do. Take full responsibility for projects, and ensure they are delivered on time.
- Communication & Presentation Skills: Candidate must be communicative – most projects involve multiple people across various teams in different departments across the three offices. It is important to proactively communicate with colleagues & stakeholders on a daily basis. The role will involve regular presentations to non-technical audiences. It is important to be a confident & skilled presenter that is capable of translating complex problems & models in layman’s terms.
Technical - Requirements
- Python: Strong Python experience is a necessity (5+ years). Python is regularly used across the BI team.
- AWS/Databricks: These platforms are used all the time in the team, experience working with these platforms is a must for this role.
- SQL: Comprehensive SQL experience in a professional environment (5+ years) is required. Need to be completely fluent in writing SQL queries for data extraction from Data Warehouses.
- Model Development: Ability to build and deploy predictive models/pricing models. An understanding of and experience with Machine Learning Algorithms is required (clustering, gradient boosting, forecasting, classification, anomaly detection).
- Excel: Extensive experience with excel spreadsheets is required. Need to be very proficient working in Excel - pivot tables, data viz, extensive formula knowledge.
- Data Visualization: A very important aspect of the role is to be able to explain complex analysis to a non tech audience through the use of data visualizations.
- Presentation Software: Ability to put together slide decks that summarize your analysis, and clearly tell a story. Have expertise in designing a range of styles of slide decks for varying audiences.
- Data Validation: Important tobe capable of validating datasets you work with contain correct information.
- Statistical Tests: Ability to independently design, set-up & measure statistical tests.
